Wilmette Community Nursery School (WCNS) is a happy place, full of eager, bright preschool children who are actively learning through play. Our curriculum and philosophy are consistent with the leading thought that children learn best when they are actively participating in hands-on, interactive experiences. Our curriculum introduces engaging and developmentally appropriate activities and centers designed to foster cognitive, physical, emotional and social development in young children.

Play-based programs such as WCNS allow children to explore their environment and manipulate the materials in any way they see fit. Repetition of activities allows learning to take place in increasingly difficult or challenging steps or tiers. As an activity is revisited, outcomes become more focused, creative and complex through parallel or cooperative play and through the discovery process. This type of approach to learning is far more effective for young children than listening to someone talk or expecting preschoolers to fill out worksheets.
